Product Description

Reclaimed oak mantel shelf with hand-hewn face and bottom with a cut top – a true testament to the allure of vintage craftsmanship and natural beauty

Reclaimed oak mantel shelf with hand-hewn face and bottom with a cut top – a true testament to the allure of vintage craftsmanship and natural beauty. Carefully selected from the best old reclaimed oak beams, this mantel shelf boasts a rich history, bringing a sense of authenticity and sustainability to your living space. The hand-hewn details crafted back in the 1800s bestow a rugged charm, ensuring no two pieces are alike, and making yours a genuine piece of art that whispers stories of the past. This piece hosts gorgeous warm tones, beautiful grain patterns, and old ax marks.

This is a timeless mantel shelf. The cut-top design adds a little more refined look that fits well into a contemporary urban home or cozy cabin. The flat top surface provides a showcase for cherished photographs, heirlooms, or curios on its flat surface, turning your mantel into a heartfelt gallery that embodies your unique personality. As you run your fingers along the reclaimed oak’s textured grain and view its earthy tones, you’ll enjoy thoughts of simpler times. Nature and history’s craftsmanship join together to stand the test of time.

It is important to note that this piece has a slight bow — it is not a perfect piece (although I think that the great character and depth of this particular piece outweigh that). On a very linear ledge-stone backdrop, it probably isn’t a great idea. On a more irregular, field stone kind of background, it will probably be just fine. It is discounted accordingly. ($500 rather than $725)

This piece came from Bongards, Minnesota which is an unincorporated town close to Cologne, Minnesota. It is well known in the area for a century-old creamery that now dairy produces including cheese and ice cream. The town was established in the mid-1800s. This particular building was a granary from late-1800s. The building was filled with hand-hewn material and square nails. No doubt, the local farmer provided milk to the creamery about a mile down the road. The picture as the building was being dismantled. This particular piece was probably one of the sill timbers supporting the granary.

We can cut this mantel shorter and refinish the ends for an additional for no additional cost.

It can be shipped anywhere in the lower 48 states via FedEx Gnd for $100

About the tag – Hey Diddle Diddle Old Maid playing card. Over the years, Old Maid cards have been one of our favorites. This is one from the set, “Old Maid Nursery Rhymes and Folk Tales Card Game” by EE Fairchild dating back to the 1940s.

Installation: In most cases, no special and expensive brackets are required — just some lag screws. Take a look at our mantel installation tips.
