Product Description

09/14/2023 – Stunning Mantel
12/18/2023 – Sold to Chris M

This oak beam mantel showcases the beauty of reclaimed wood with its rich patina and stunning grain patterns. The beam displays a color variation from wheatish tan to warm brown, which is indicative of white oak. The tannins in the wood naturally react with the ammonia in the air to darken the wood.

We cut the top and bottom from the original beam to give you the best of both worlds: great character and more modern, clean lines. We re-darkened the top with ammonia directly so that the color on all of the sides complement each other well. The right end of the front also shows some original saw marks from back in the day.

The dimensions on this oak beam mantel are currently 6.125 inches tall x 7.875 inches deep x 72.0 inches long. We can cut this mantel shorter and refinish the ends for an additional for no additional cost.

The original barn was located in Mayer, Minnesota. Mayer is located West of the Minneapolis metro by about 45 minutes today. Back in the day, the local newspaper would actually take note when folks made the 1-day journey by horse and wagon to Minneapolis. Based on the construction of the barn, it probably dates back to the early 1900s. By that time, the sawmills had come to the area, round nails were in, and the roof lines were still pretty straight (not hip).

It can be shipped anywhere in the lower 48 states via FedEx Gnd for $150

About the tag – Charming, late 1940’s vintage advertisement for Sunkist Lemonade. “Lemonade Time” they say. Back in the day, they were selling lemon juice in a can to be made into lemonade — not your Country Time Lemonade powder of today.

You can shop some available mantel beams and thinner mantel shelves on this website.

However, our website here only contains a small number of all of the mantels that we have in stock.
We are literally a mom-and-pop shop that does lots of custom work. We often just don’t quite find enough time to update this website regularly.
We have nearly 150 finished mantels and another 500 or so unfinished pieces in stock at any time that can be viewed with other links.

We also do lots of custom work. If we understand what you are seeking, we can find and create that magic piece.

Please contact us for a full list and personal recommendations. We’re happy to chat and find a great piece for you.

We work with a great local blacksmith to add metal straps and other ornamentation to our mantels. He is the real deal — coal forged and hand hammered. The metalwork has great color and tight fit. Nothing machined. We can start with a finished mantel you find on our site, or we can start with raw stock for more options.

Here are a few examples of the hundreds that we have crafted over the years. We can work together to create something unique. You can also browse our Mantels with Metalwork page.
