Product Description
AVAILABLE. Great size on a solid white oak piece.
This white oak fireplace mantel from reclaimed wood blends old-world charm with modern function. We crafted it from old barn beam, keeping the original hand-hewn front face from the late 1800s while resawing the top and bottom for a clean finish. The deep 9-inch shelf gives you plenty of space for decorating, while the natural white oak grain adds visual interest across the top. The front face shows off authentic axe marks from its original craftsmen, telling the story of its historic barn beam origins. With its nice little dimensions in a solid white oak piece, this mantel shelf serves as a stunning accent piece that seamlessly blends historic charm with contemporary style.
- This reclaimed mantel has been sanded, but no finish coat has been applied. Final finishing is included in the price.
We can preserve this nice natural white oak color, or the piece will go darker with our typical, high-end Rubio Monocoat finish.
The last few pictures simulate the coloring of a Rubio Monocoat finish. - It is currently 4.25 x 9.00 x 59in inches long, we can cut to size at no additional charge.
- It can be shipped anywhere in the lower 48 states via FedEx Gnd for $150
- Note, that there is a fill on the bottom lower right. It is well crafted, but probably still rarely seen in a normal setting.
- There is also a little filled peg-hole on the top surface.
This piece of American history was salvaged from a Wisconsin barn dating to the late 1800s, when craftsmen still shaped beams by hand, before the rise of sawmills in 1900. This fireplace mantel from reclaimed wood comes from our Amish wood supplier, a family business we’ve worked with for years. What started with the father is now mainly run by his sons, maintaining the same quality and care.
About the tag – A 1950’s advertisement for Tokheim Farm Pumps from Farm Life Magazine. The company’s origins are closely tied to the petroleum and automotive industries rather than agriculture. John J. Tokheim, the founder, invented the “Visible Measuring Pump” in 1898 to safely store and dispense gasoline. This invention was patented in 1901 and led to the formation of the Tokheim Manufacturing Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. If you watch American Pickers, you might recall the joke about the “invisible” gas pump.
More Mantel Inventory
You can shop some available mantel beams and thinner mantel shelves on this website.
However, our website here only contains a small number of all of the mantels that we have in stock.
We are literally a mom-and-pop shop that does lots of custom work. We often just don’t quite find enough time to update this website regularly.
We have nearly 150 finished mantels and another 500 or so unfinished pieces in stock at any time that can be viewed with other links.
We also do lots of custom work. If we understand what you are seeking, we can find and create that magic piece.
Please contact us for a full list and personal recommendations. We’re happy to chat and find a great piece for you.
Mantels with Metal
We work with a great local blacksmith to add metal straps and other ornamentation to our mantels. He is the real deal — coal forged and hand hammered. The metalwork has great color and tight fit. Nothing machined. We can start with a finished mantel you find on our site, or we can start with raw stock for more options.
Here are a few examples of the hundreds that we have crafted over the years. We can work together to create something unique. You can also browse our Mantels with Metalwork page.
Installation
In most cases, no special and expensive brackets are required — just some lag screws. The different approaches outlined are very strong, simple, and economical. Take a look at our mantel installation tips.
