Product Description
Reclaimed white oak with cool crack.
If you’ve been searching for a Rustic Wood Fireplace Mantel that’s genuinely, unapologetically the real thing — stop right here. This piece is it.
Pulled from a life well-lived and reclaimed into something truly special, this white oak mantel carries the kind of warmth and character that simply cannot be rushed, reproduced, or faked. The color alone will stop you in your tracks — sandy, sun-washed tones bleeding into rich ambers and deep earthy browns, all flowing together across the grain like a painting that took decades to finish. That’s white oak doing what white oak does best.
And that crack running across the face? We love it. Seriously. We know it might catch your eye and raise a question or two, but here’s the thing — that crack is one of the most honest things about this mantel. It’s nature’s signature, proof positive that you’re looking at real, solid wood through and through. No hollow shell, no MDF core, no veneer tricks. Just wood being wood. It’s completely stable and isn’t going anywhere — you get every ounce of that wild, rustic character with zero compromise on quality or durability.
The sweeping grain pattern tells its own story too, looping and swirling across the face in a way that draws your eye from one end to the other. Toss in the subtle knots, the organic texture, and the quiet history baked into every inch of this piece, and you’ve got something that does a lot more than hold a few candles above your fireplace. It becomes the focal point of the whole room — the warm, rustic anchor that everything else revolves around.
Oh, and here’s a fun little detail: the photos show this beam exactly as it came to us — straight from the barn — “barn fresh,” before we laid a hand on it. It’s a great peek at the journey from raw and rough to the beauty you see now.

We stumbled upon this beauty thanks to our Amish friends taking down a barn near Marquette, Iowa — just a stone’s throw across the Mississippi from Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. They were in the middle of taking down a gorgeous old barn when we pulled up, and honestly, it was like finding treasure. We loaded up with beams destined for a ceiling project, but handpicked a few extra standout pieces specifically for mantels — including some incredible walnut and cherry. The circle-sawn marks on the wood are a telltale sign this barn dates to the early 1900s or so, which means over a century of history is coming home with you. We love knowing exactly where our wood comes from — and this one has a great story.
About the tag – Bourjois Java Face Powder advertisement — a beloved French beauty brand that dates back to 1879. Java was their first blockbuster product, selling over 2.5 million units in 1914 alone. The brand itself was a French company, A. Bourjois & Cie, which had showrooms in New York by 1925, selling widely in the American market. The ad likely dates to around 1919–1920, making it a perfect companion to this century-old barn oak.

However, our website here only contains a small number of all of the mantels that we have in stock.
We are literally a mom-and-pop shop that does lots of custom work. We often just don’t quite find enough time to update this website regularly.
We have nearly 150 finished mantels and another 500 or so unfinished pieces in stock at any time that can be viewed with other links.

Mantels with Metal
We work with a great local blacksmith to add metal straps and other ornamentation to our mantels. He is the real deal — coal forged and hand hammered. The metalwork has great color and tight fit. Nothing machined. We can start with a finished mantel you find on our site, or we can start with raw stock for more options.
Here are a few examples of the hundreds that we have crafted over the years. We can work together to create something unique. You can also browse our Mantels with Metalwork page.

Installation
In most cases, no special and expensive brackets are required — just some lag screws. The different approaches outlined are very strong, simple, and economical. Take a look at our mantel installation tips.
