Product Description

Interesting reclaimed white oak piece.

Interesting rustic timber mantel from an old 1920 barn. Shown as sanded with no top coat finish applied, this timber mantel has both square edges as well as some interesting tree-like character and curves. It has all the hallmarks of a great old barn beam with saw marks, nail holes, and a couple of big bolt holes. We should have some cool hardware to fill those if you’d like. Beams from this particular batch were unusually hard and heavy. Trees do vary. I assume between the exact species of white oak and the growing location, the weigh can be different.

We sanded all 4 sides on this one. We just couldn’t decide which one we liked best. Perhaps you’ll spy your favorite.

It is priced and shown with no finish applied. A nice finish of a hard wax oil will darken the wood beautifully — creating lots of contrast between the heartwood and sapwood.  (like the first picture. In that case, we just temporarily splashed on mineral spirits). On the other hand, it could certainly be finished with wax to keep the color as-is. If we finish, it runs an additional $75.

This rustic timber mantel is 70.5in long,  6in tall x 6in deep. We’re happy to re-size in any direction at no additional cost.

The original beam for this mantel came from a 1920 barn near Glencoe, Minnesota, about 50 miles west of downtown Minneapolis. You can see the 1920 marking on the original cupola. Imagine the farmer’s pride as he erected this sturdy barn, a symbol of his hard work and success. We got lucky with a gorgeous, dramatic sky when we took the original photo.

It can be shipped anywhere in the lower 48 states via FedEx Gnd for $125.

You can shop some available mantel beams and thinner mantel shelves on this website.

However, our website here only contains a small number of all of the mantels that we have in stock.
We are literally a mom-and-pop shop that does lots of custom work. We often just don’t quite find enough time to update this website regularly.
We have nearly 150 finished mantels and another 500 or so unfinished pieces in stock at any time that can be viewed with other links.

We also do lots of custom work. If we understand what you are seeking, we can find and create that magic piece.

Please contact us for a full list and personal recommendations. We’re happy to chat and find a great piece for you.

We work with a great local blacksmith to add metal straps and other ornamentation to our mantels. He is the real deal — coal forged and hand hammered. The metalwork has great color and tight fit. Nothing machined. We can start with a finished mantel you find on our site, or we can start with raw stock for more options.

Here are a few examples of the hundreds that we have crafted over the years. We can work together to create something unique. You can also browse our Mantels with Metalwork page.
