Product Description

Well priced authentic 1800s piece.

A classic hand-hewn reclaimed wood fireplace mantel, a timeless piece with a rich history. Hewn back in the day by early American settlers swinging axes, both the top and bottom displace authentic old craftsmanship, showcasing a delightful texture and superb color variation. The top surface has been cut to provide a flat surface for your decorating endeavors. It is great piece with the character and charm of  genuine reclaimed wood — a fusion of history and style that brings warmth to any home.

This particular mantel had a lot of rot. Although it was fine as-is, we filled the back with epoxy and sawdust. This filled up the void and created a more solid piece. Once mounted, nobody will ever see it again. But because of this, we reduced the price of this one from $750 to $650.

The dimensions of this reclaimed wood mantel are currently 7.5 inches tall x 7.25 inches deep x 65.5 inches long. We can cut this mantel shorter and refinish the ends for an additional for no additional cost. (however, in this case, we might need to be aware of how that back might affect the end).

This unique reclaimed wood fireplace mantel, sourced from a distinctive batch of 1800s beams discovered in Red Wing, Minnesota which carries a rich history. While details about the original building are limited, Red Wing, being one of Minnesota’s earliest cities, thrived in sawmill activity during that era. This suggests that this particular piece was likely crafted by hand, predating the widespread availability of sawmill lumber. Its potential age is probably older than most of our other hand-hewn wood — dating back to the mid-1800s rather than the late 1800s.

It can be shipped anywhere in the lower 48 states via FedEx Gnd for $150

About the tag – Coleman’s Mustard with the trademarked bull’s head. The distinctive red and yellow livery too is a historic mark and was introduced to the label in 1866. This advertisement was from the 1920s. Colman’s is still sold today under the Unilever umbrella of companies.

You can shop some available mantel beams and thinner mantel shelves on this website.

However, our website here only contains a small number of all of the mantels that we have in stock.
We are literally a mom-and-pop shop that does lots of custom work. We often just don’t quite find enough time to update this website regularly.
We have nearly 150 finished mantels and another 500 or so unfinished pieces in stock at any time that can be viewed with other links.

We also do lots of custom work. If we understand what you are seeking, we can find and create that magic piece.

Please contact us for a full list and personal recommendations. We’re happy to chat and find a great piece for you.

We work with a great local blacksmith to add metal straps and other ornamentation to our mantels. He is the real deal — coal forged and hand hammered. The metalwork has great color and tight fit. Nothing machined. We can start with a finished mantel you find on our site, or we can start with raw stock for more options.

Here are a few examples of the hundreds that we have crafted over the years. We can work together to create something unique. You can also browse our Mantels with Metalwork page.
