Old Red Oak barn beam mantel from a barn near Prior Lake, Minnesota. This beam was from an original, old mortise-and-tenon timber frame barn. Circle sawn timber frame barns were built from about 1900 to 1940 around here. From about the mid 1930s we see stick, or balloon, framed barns coming into fashion — similar to the modern construction techniques of today.
This one has a nice dark color. Lots of original character including worm trails, nail holes, and the stronger graining of red oak. A few ghosts of the circle saw marks show through the face as well.
