Product Description
Rare opportunity to own a piece of American frontier history.
Here is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire the recently dismantled historic log cabin home built by some of Kentucky’s first settlers, Israel and Susannah (Boone) Grant, shortly after Daniel Boone blazed the Wilderness Trail into Kentucky. Susannah Boone Grant was a sister to Daniel Boone himself.
This pristine 20’ x 34’ 1,250 square feet, two-story log structure was built in 1787 near Georgetown Kentucky, and has been maintained exceptionally well for the last 237 years, having been clad over inside and out for more “modern” times. The land where the home was built has been sold for commercial development and the current owners took these steps to ensure the continued survival of the historic structure. We have carefully dismantled and tagged the structure for its preservation and re-assembly. This building is registered as a National Historic Place and a Kentucky Landmark (the National Historic Place registration can be transferred to the structure’s new location).
The original structural components are in storage and ready to ship for the cabin to be rebuilt and given new life for another 237 years. Only a few structural members will need to be reproduced for 100% reassembly. We have included some photographs of the cabin before being dismantled, the salvage process, and the plans for reassembly. Please let us know if you or your organization are interested in acquiring this unique frontier structure straight from the pages of the history books of our nation’s founding.
There is also a nice news video from when the structure was dismantled.

More Mantel Inventory
You can shop some available mantel beams and thinner mantel shelves on this website.
However, our website here only contains a small number of all of the mantels that we have in stock.
We are literally a mom-and-pop shop that does lots of custom work. We often just don’t quite find enough time to update this website regularly.
We have nearly 150 finished mantels and another 500 or so unfinished pieces in stock at any time that can be viewed with other links.
We also do lots of custom work. If we understand what you are seeking, we can find and create that magic piece.
Please contact us for a full list and personal recommendations. We’re happy to chat and find a great piece for you.
Mantels with Metal
We work with a great local blacksmith to add metal straps and other ornamentation to our mantels. He is the real deal — coal forged and hand hammered. The metalwork has great color and tight fit. Nothing machined. We can start with a finished mantel you find on our site, or we can start with raw stock for more options.
Here are a few examples of the hundreds that we have crafted over the years. We can work together to create something unique. You can also browse our Mantels with Metalwork page.
Installation
In most cases, no special and expensive brackets are required — just some lag screws. The different approaches outlined are very strong, simple, and economical. Take a look at our mantel installation tips.
