Reclaimed Pine Bleacher Floor

This was a fun project. We gathered some bleacher wood from LeSueur – Henderson, Minnesota High School. The bleachers were installed in the old gym in about the 1950’s or 60’s. The wood appears to be a Southern Yellow Pine. The neat thing about the bleachers is that the boards were a full 16 feet long by about 8 or 9 inches wide. The planks did, however, have lots and lots and lots of bolt holes. There were a couple of bolts every 16 inches or so. That might not seem like much, but once you start taking the bolts off these bleachers, there were literally thousands of bolts — probably over 5000.

In the end, our customer used the planks in nice long runs on his floor in an old Swedish coped log cabin. He applied lye and white soap to achieve this nice, pale, Swedish-style finish. It is really stunning.
