Product Description

Sanded, but no finish applied. We will finish to your needs.

This timber mantel displays some neat rustic character. The face hosts 3 different features — a rounded tree-like face, a cool knot, and some neat hand hewn character. The top and bottom show ax work from the late 1800s. It is kind of funny. If you look closely, you can actually see that the original ax even had chips in the blade. The “great craftsman” of the day didn’t always perfectly maintain their tools either. I’m sure they just had to get their work done. This timber came from an original settler log cabin near Annandale, Minnesota. The logs were hidden behind lath-and-plaster walls for decades. Nowadays, many people would be thrilled to have an original log cabin accent wall. What a remarkable piece of history!

This black ash timber mantel has some nice dimensions. It is 7.5 inches tall x 10 to 11 inches deep x 70 inches long. It is currently unfinished, but we’re happy to finish to suit your needs. We can cut less deep and shorter as well. It is currently priced as sanded but no finish applied. We can apply finish for an additional $75. Contact us for proper invoicing.

We can cut this mantel shorter and refinish the ends for no additional cost.

It can be shipped anywhere in the lower 48 states via FedEx Gnd for $150

About the Tag: Not to be confusing, this mantel isn’t old government supply. The name tag is an old advertisement from 611 Government Supply from November 1922 — just 4 years after World War I. They presumably sold government surplus clothing. Cool ad with coats, shirts, shoes, and even wool underwear for those cold nights.

More Mantel Inventory

You can shop some available mantel beams and thinner mantel shelves on this website.

However, our website here only contains a small number of all of the mantels that we have in stock.
We are literally a mom-and-pop shop that does lots of custom work. We often just don’t quite find enough time to update this website regularly.
We have nearly 150 finished mantels and another 500 or so unfinished pieces in stock at any time that can be viewed with other links.

We also do lots of custom work. If we understand what you are seeking, we can find and create that magic piece.

Please contact us for a full list and personal recommendations. We’re happy to chat and find a great piece for you.

We work with a great local blacksmith to add metal straps and other ornamentation to our mantels. He is the real deal — coal forged and hand hammered. The metalwork has great color and tight fit. Nothing machined. We can start with a finished mantel you find on our site, or we can start with raw stock for more options.

Here are a few examples of the hundreds that we have crafted over the years. We can work together to create something unique. You can also browse our Mantels with Metalwork page.
