Product Description

Live Edge Mantel – White Oak

Live Edge Mantel Shelf — this reclaimed piece offers the best of all worlds. The flat top gives you a perfect, stable surface for displaying candles, frames, or your favorite seasonal decor, while the live edge flows organically across the bottom edge, giving it that raw, natural personality you just can’t fake or factory-make.

What makes this piece special is the gentle hand-hewn character worked into the face. You can feel the history in every tool mark and grain line — it’s rustic without being rough, refined without losing its soul.

Note the couple of gorgeous knots on the face. They’re bold, dramatic, and full of character — nature’s own artwork baked right into the wood over decades.

The two-toned color variation adds incredible depth, shifting between warm honey and cool silvery-gray tones depending on how the light hits it. It’s that kind of subtle, organic beauty that makes a mantel feel truly one-of-a-kind.

Whether your style is farmhouse, modern rustic, or somewhere in between, this white oak mantel is ready to become the anchor of your living space.

  • This solid white oak shelf is shown as sanded, but no finish has been applied
  • We can preserve the current color or darken with an oil finish. (see darker sample picture at end)
  • Great 9in depth! It is currently 6.0 tall x 9 deep x up to 73in long
  • Sizing (cutting and sanding the ends) as well as finishing are included in the price
  • We’ll also plan to fill the pockets on the bottom as needed. (we wait to understand the final length)
  • Note, there is a little 1in x 2in chip out of the upper right corner where the hewing cut through.
  • Note as well, the bottom photos are a little “unfair.” You will almost never see the bottom straight on like this after install.
  • It ships via UPS Ground for $150

A few times a year, we make the trip out to visit our dear Amish friends nestled in the rolling hills of Wisconsin — and honestly, it’s one of our favorite parts of what we do. These families are warm, generous, and genuinely joyful people. Walking their land feels like the world slows down in the best possible way. Horses work the fields, kids wave from passing buggies, and the air smells like fresh cut wood and open country. They hand-select the finest reclaimed hand-hewn timber, and that care shows in every mantel we create. We’re grateful for every visit.

About the tag –We tag each mantel with a piece of history — this one wears a Lionel Trains advertisement from a 1953 Farm Journal Magazine. Lionel was the toy of the era, every kid’s Christmas dream in postwar America. Those gleaming locomotives under the tree defined a generation. It’s a fitting label for a piece of wood with just as much character and history running through its grain.

You can shop some available mantel beams and thinner mantel shelves on this website.

However, our website here only contains a small number of all of the mantels that we have in stock.
We are literally a mom-and-pop shop that does lots of custom work. We often just don’t quite find enough time to update this website regularly.
We have nearly 150 finished mantels and another 500 or so unfinished pieces in stock at any time that can be viewed with other links.

We also do lots of custom work. If we understand what you are seeking, we can find and create that magic piece.

Please contact us for a full list and personal recommendations. We’re happy to chat and find a great piece for you.

We work with a great local blacksmith to add metal straps and other ornamentation to our mantels. He is the real deal — coal forged and hand hammered. The metalwork has great color and tight fit. Nothing machined. We can start with a finished mantel you find on our site, or we can start with raw stock for more options.

Here are a few examples of the hundreds that we have crafted over the years. We can work together to create something unique. You can also browse our Mantels with Metalwork page.
