A neat old farm table. Original hand hewn uprights from an old granary. Amazing workmanship from a real blacksmith hammering out 3/4in x 3in curves to bring the table together. Wonderful reclaimed white oak top full of character and variation.
This table was one of the first pieces that Kevin Coffel from Antique Woodworks and Wyatt Bienfang from WLB Blacksmith Shop worked on together. After sketching many designs, this just seemed to be one that best showed off the unique talents of each artist.
The base is comprised of hand hewn timbers dating back to the 1800s. They have been sanded and worked to preserve the authenticity and character, but to be clean and functional. The joinery is all full, old school mortise and tenon. The top was made from the floor joists of the same original granary. There’s lots of nice color variation as well as some original sawmarks.
The metal work was hand hammered with muscle, hammers, forges, and anvils. No trip hammers or cheating here. Some of the work was crafted on-site at the LeSueur Pioneer Power Show in LeSueur, Minnesota while visitors came to enjoy the show. The rest was completed at Wyatt’s shop.
This table is now the centerpiece in Wyatt’s kitchen. They enjoy meals, prayers, and games on the table. It takes a lot of abuse in those crazy card games, but holds up beautifully.
