— We have other similar raw material available. We craft lots of different iron work for our customers as well —

Lots of people are looking for rectangular mantels, which are not the most common occurrence in reclaimed wood. By joining two 6×6 pine barn beams, we came up with a nice 6×12 fireplace mantel. To top it off, we added a hand forged ring made by WLB Blacksmith shop. To see some of our past work, check out our mantels with ironwork page.

The two pine beams were actually from the same 13foot beam. Even so, there is a little color variation between the two. The beams have been lightly sanded and then finished with a Hard Wax Oil. The iron ring was entirely hand forged. The ring is very close, but not perfectly circular which is one of the marks of authenticity of real hand work. We could add more ironwork as well.

The original barn was located near New Ulm, Minnesota – a strong German community. In fact, some German POWs were housed near the town in World War II. Based on the style, the use of round nails, machine turned pegs and pine beams, this barn was probably built close to 1930. It did have a few reused timbers from a previous 1800s vintage barn.

More Mantel Inventory

You can shop some available mantel beams and thinner mantel shelves on this website.

However, our website here only contains a small number of all of the mantels that we have in stock.
We are literally a mom-and-pop shop that does lots of custom work. We often just don’t quite find enough time to update this website regularly.
We have nearly 150 finished mantels and another 500 or so unfinished pieces in stock at any time that can be viewed with other links.

We also do lots of custom work. If we understand what you are seeking, we can find and create that magic piece.

Please contact us for a full list and personal recommendations. We’re happy to chat and find a great piece for you.

We work with a great local blacksmith to add metal straps and other ornamentation to our mantels. He is the real deal — coal forged and hand hammered. The metalwork has great color and tight fit. Nothing machined. We can start with a finished mantel you find on our site, or we can start with raw stock for more options.

Here are a few examples of the hundreds that we have crafted over the years. We can work together to create something unique. You can also browse our Mantels with Metalwork page.
