Here’s a simple, white pine barn beam mantel. It’s well priced for it’s size – $350 for a 7ft long mantel. It could be cut down to fit your needs as well. This beam was from a barn that was probably built around the 1930’s or so. It came from an area about 50 miles Southwest of Minneapolis, Minnesota. This area was on the edge of what Laura Ingalls Wilder referred to as “The Big Woods.” It was a very large hardwood forest around the Minneapolis area. Because this is pine (a softwood), it’s more likely that this was brought in by rail; perhaps even a kit barn. (yes, Sears and Roebuck sold barns as well as houses).
This mantel was finished by our 12-year-old son, Ben; and is priced accordingly. He’s a good little craftsman and he gets the money for this one.
