Douglas Fir is the classic wainscot and paneling wood. It it found extensively in the Mission style homes of California and across the nation. We are very careful to gather material that has a great aged patina. We're not looking for the interior of beams with a bright orange - pink color, but rather the rich auborns, browns, and a bit of pale yellow. We also seek material that has a great old tight grain -- the straighter the better. As a reality, we get material that is not all quarter sawn and has a few knots, but this is much better than any Doug Fir on the modern market.
