This fireplace mantel beam is stunningly gorgeous. It is simple in the respect that it is circle sawn rather than hand hewn, but the grains and color can’t be beat. It has just this wonderful set of warm golden brown hues accented by darker tones around some knots. There are clear circle saw marks throughout. Likewise, there are a few natural cracks here and there as well.

The original beam came from an old barn in Southwest Wisconsin. Being circle sawn, it is from the 20th century at some point. We purchased this wood from an Amish gentleman who lives out in the rolling hills of the area. That land out there is still dotted with small farms where the cows and other livestock wander out in the corrals. It’s not like the modern farms that we see by our place in Minnesota with hundreds of cows stuffed in a tin building. It is great to see agriculture the way that I remember it as a kid.

This mantel beam is 87 inches long and is priced at $100/LF = $725. We can cut this one down to any length, but the price is fixed on this one. It really is a stunning beauty. We’ll refinished the ends so no one will ever know it has been cut. At full length this one tips the scales at about 165 pounds. That pushes us into Truck Freight shipping, so shipping would run about $200. For every inch we cut off, we lose 1.9lbs. So, if we cut off about 8inches or more, we can slip back into FedEx shipping. That will run about $125.

About the tag – Cinch Cake — The Cake that is Easy to Make. Add Water, Mix, and Bake. This ad was from 1949, there are a few more from 1950s. It appears that the product was not accepted in the marketplace. There is very little information out there about Cinch.

More Mantel Inventory

You can shop some available mantel beams and thinner mantel shelves on this website.

However, our website here only contains a small number of all of the mantels that we have in stock.
We are literally a mom-and-pop shop that does lots of custom work. We often just don’t quite find enough time to update this website regularly.
We have nearly 150 finished mantels and another 500 or so unfinished pieces in stock at any time that can be viewed with other links.

We also do lots of custom work. If we understand what you are seeking, we can find and create that magic piece.

Please contact us for a full list and personal recommendations. We’re happy to chat and find a great piece for you.

We work with a great local blacksmith to add metal straps and other ornamentation to our mantels. He is the real deal — coal forged and hand hammered. The metalwork has great color and tight fit. Nothing machined. We can start with a finished mantel you find on our site, or we can start with raw stock for more options.

Here are a few examples of the hundreds that we have crafted over the years. We can work together to create something unique. You can also browse our Mantels with Metalwork page.
