Another sill timber from a barn near Waconia, Minnesota that has been transformed into a great mantel. The sill timber sits on top of the stone foundation and underneath the walls.

Here is an sill timber from a barn near Waconia, Minnesota that has been transformed into a great mantel. The sill timber sits on top of the stone foundation and underneath the walls. Around here, more often than not, these beams tend to be white oak. White oak has natural rot resistance.

This one has a nice natural color for white oak that has been exposed to a barn environment for decades. This pieces shows some area that have rotten, but we worked to the point that only solid material remains.

Nice texture on this one as well. This beam also has a more rectangular size, which is somewhat unusual.

Mantels with Metal

We work with a great local blacksmith to add metal straps and other ornamentation to our mantels. He is the real deal — coal forged and hand hammered. The metalwork has great color and tight fit. Nothing machined. We can start with a finished mantel you find on our site, or we can start with raw stock for more options.
