This is a Red Oak, tree-like mantel timber from an old
log cabin in Prior Lake, Minnesota. It has original axe
marks where the original builder flattened out the sides.
This one also has some nice natural, flowing lines to it.
The color variation is also wonderful.
The log cabin was
constructed in the late 1800s and was lived in up until 2008. It
had been refurbished and it was a nice little place. The
home had been dismantled without any tagging and as such
was too difficult a jig-saw puzzle to try to re-assemble.
Tsk, Tsk, Tsk... we even hit 2 large square nails dead-on
with the saw on the end. It may ding the blade a bit, but
I guess it adds some nice character.
