We get a reasonable amount of old log barn and log cabin timbers, but only about 5-10% of them have hand hewing on more than 2 sides. This is one of those unusual beams that is both hand hewn and rectangular. It’s American Elm, which was quite common in what Laura Ingalls Wilder referred to as the Big Woods. It came from an old log barn in near Howard Lake, Minnesota. The color variation as well as the smooth curves on this one are great.
