This is one of those great things that happen to come together. Before I was born, my grandfather delivered Gedney's pickles, mustard, and other condiments. Growing up, my mother always insisted that we eat Gedney's Mustard and Pickles because her father once worked for them.
As it turned out, we were in a barn in Waconia, Minnesota which is about 10-15 miles from Chaska, Minnesota (the Gedney Headquarters). There was a distinct pile of Redwood vat material. I asked the owner about it and sure enough, it was from the Gedney plant. Now-a-days, they've gone to stainless steel vats, so the old wood vats are something from days gone by.
The outsides of the wood had been heavily varnished, had hand-painted tank numbers, and traces of old metal bands. We even found the bung hole and bung.
From this material, we've created a simple frame with a story to tell. The picture was taken by my grandfather of his collegues in the late 1940's.
