Most of the people that salvage barns would have thrown
this piece out. It was rotten and super ugly before we
started. This piece required lots and lots of scraping
and sanding before it started to shine. Now that it's
there....this one gets lots of oh's and ah's.
This piece was part of a "sill beam" -- the beam that
on the foundation and base of the building. It gets lots
of water, moisture and exposure to the elements. Barn
builders generally used good rot-resistant woods like
white oak or black walnut in this location in the barn.
The color on this mantel is all natural! Remind us.. we've
got original pictures of this barn before it came down.
